ADI SAPPIR Biography
Adi Sappir is a cellist who hails originally from Israel but is now based in Melbourne,
Victoria.
She received training from two of Israel’s leading cellists: Dr. David Sella - a
former member of New York University music faculty, and Emanuel Gruber - principal
cellist of the Israeli Chamber Orchestra.
Adi is also a graduate student of the musicology faculty at Bar- Ilan University,
Tel-Aviv.
During her studies, Adi participated in a variety of music events and ensembles.
She was a member of Ein Hod quintet, attended local music seminars, and travelled
to Idyllwild, California and the Czech Republic for master classes and chamber music
training.
Along with playing classical music, she has also played in rock bands and taken
part in creating music for theatre productions for the colleges of performing arts:
Beit Zvi and Nisan Nativ. Since arriving in Australia in 2001, Adi has played in
baroque chamber ensembles and with R&B pianist Andy Cowan, all the time developing
her special sound of East meeting West. On December 2003 Adi joined forces with
seasoned musicians guitarist/singer
Mark Ferrie and guitarist
Andrew Pendlebury to form the Mercurials.
Earlier on 2003 Adi has met harpist and vocalist Emily Rosner, with whom she performed
both as a duo and in different groups. The two have performed at the Boite world
music café, The Kitten Club and in various private functions.
In the last couple of years Adi has been performing in festivals such as Port Fairy
Music Festival, and Mount Beauty Music Muster and in wineries, galleries and other
venues as a part of the Mercurials, with Emily Rosner, with other ensembles and
as a soloist.
